About Martina

Martina Gotz

Martina has practised yoga for over 30 years and been teaching for more than 25.

These days her personal practice is solely in the Shadow Yoga method developed by Shandor Remete & Emma Balnaves. Martina began exploring Shadow Yoga 9 years ago and practises regularly with Shandor & Emma.

Since June 2018, Martina has begun introducing the Shadow Yoga practice to students. In Auckland she teaches regular weekly public yoga classes, offers private tuition and hosts workshops.

In the past she has also conducted yoga workshops, retreats and had guest teaching posts in New Zealand, Australia and China in different yoga methods, often collaborating with other teachers, in particular: Vicki Soper at Breathing Space Yoga Group in Newmarket, Stephanie Nelson & Kiri Sutherland in the Trinity Yoga collaboration, and Tiffany Fleetwood-Bird in the Vinyasa Krama NZ collaboration.

I am grateful to all that has come before, and brought me to this current place.

From my parents, my first gurus, through my early yoga experiences, teacher trainings in Modern Vinyasa, Iyengar influenced Hatha, Ashtanga as taught by Sri.K Pattabhi of Mysore, India & Matthew Sweeney’s Vinyasa Krama, to my current Shadow Yoga experiences….  I am always a student.

Weekly classes

Stillness in Movement offers regular weekly public yoga classes at The Breathing Space Yoga Group, a peaceful, boutique studio in Newmarket, Auckland.

Private tuition

One to One yoga tuition can be highly beneficial for those:

  • with injury or illness
  • during pregnancy, perhaps adapting a regular practice
  • developing a home yoga practice
  • new to yoga seeking individual attention


Events provide inspiration to start or deepen your practice, and connect with others on the yoga journey.

  • If you are new to yoga or Shadow Yoga, our Led Intro class is a great place to start.
  • For individual attention if timings don’t work for you, or you have any particular needs that may not be able to addressed in a group setting, private tuition could suit you.
